Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
